SHEILA

Scotland's dramatic landscape and coastline have always held a strong appeal for Sheila. Though she has painted other parts of Britain, she feels the extraordinary beauty of Scotland has an additional pull. Based in Edinburgh, Sheila spends much time travelling the country, often by sea, working either directly from the landscape or from water-colour sketches. 0ften likened to the Scottish Colourists, Sheila is fired by a desire to communicate the full intensity of colour found in the natural world, a task to which she believes the palette of oil colours is more suited than the camera, which she says, "Doesn't capture the range of colour that the human eye can see. A photograph never gets the colour right." Sheila has exhibited in the United States, Sweden and Japan. Her painting "Near Cape Wrath" inspired by a visit to the rugged North-western point of the Scottish mainland gives a vivid account of light, colour and mood. |
